This post comes by special request from my sweet friend who is due to give birth any day now. Said sweet friend has been doing a lot of yoga throughout her pregnancy, and is looking for a non-toxic, make-it-yourself way to clean her yoga mat. I get it. A really good yoga session with a deeply satisfying sweaty savasana makes for a slightly stinky yoga mat. Easy fix! I used to spray my own yoga mat with a mixture of white vinegar, water, and tea trea oil, but the smell of the vinegar would linger for weeks afterwards. This recipe I've created still contains powerful anti-fungal properties but leaves a lovely fresh scent afterwards.
Yoga Mat Cleaner
- 1/3 c. water
- 1/4 c. witch hazel
- 10 drops tea tree oil
- 5 drops peppermint oil
- 5 drops eucalyptus oil
- 5 drops lavender oil
Combine all ingredients in a glass spray bottle and store in a dark area when not in use.
To use, spray all over the surface of your yoga mat. Take a damp cloth and wipe away before drying with a towel. Repeat on the other side, and let air dry for 10 minutes. I like to hang it over a door or shower curtain overnight.
