Summer Beauty Potion

I call this a potion because the creation of it feels like a kind of witchy summer magic.

It requires infusing, mixing, flower essences, and a prayer of good intentions. Serve it to yourself on days when you are feeling the desire to savor the moment.

A Note on Flower Essences

Flower essences are solutions of brandy and water infused with flower material (inspired by the dew on flower petals in the morning).

Each remedy is crafted with the essence of the flower in mind, as each flower species contains a different property to address mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our consciousness.

I chose Clematis and Wild Rose essences for this potion. Clematis helps you to “live more present rather than in the future or in your own dream world” and Wild Rose helps you to “feel interest and joy in life when you feel apathetic and resign to the situation you are in.” The combination of these essences felt like a recipe for savoring the last of summer.

Late Summer Beauty Potion

This potion is made in 2 parts. You infuse tea in the sun first and then mix together the drink with the infused tea.

Sun Infusion Tea

  • 3 tbsp dried hibiscus (from here)
  • 4 slices fresh lemon
  • 1 handful blueberries, mashed
  • 1 tbsp dried lavender flowers (from here)
  • 4 torn mint leaves
  • 1 nub fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
  • Cold, filtered water

To make your tea, combine the tea ingredients in a large jar with cold water. Seal and set out in the sunlight for at least 4 hours to infuse. Once infused, strain out the solid bits and capture the infused tea.
