I’ve considered waiting to post this tutorial in February during Valentine’s Day blogging madness. But then I remembered that love is one my favorite things to talk about, and this tincture is a gift to you. A gift of love! For your partnerships, for your body, and for your dreams.
Today I’ve made you a tincture. A tincture essentially is a concentrated liquid extract of herbs. It uses alcohol (vodka) as the solvent, and it super potent. Tinctures are to be taken by the dropper-ful on the tongue or diluted in warm water, administered sparingly. They are that powerful.
I’ve made one before – for those days of stressed nerves. But this tincture has a powerful ingredient that I have fallen in love with. It’s called Damiana leaf.
Damiana is an herb with a reputation for passion. What’s behind that is its restorative properties. Damiana restores exhausted nerves, is an antidepressant, and stimulates sexual vitality. Yes, the damiana leaf strengthens the nerves associated with both the male and female reproductive system. Now you know the secret behind the love potions of ancient healers.
I’ve also added in some lovely rose petals, to dilute the bitter flavor of the damiana leaf and help with relaxing the body. Rose petals are known to improve the ability to sleep and enhance mental function.
Damiana Rose Love Tincture
Take your jar (whatever size you’d like) and fill ¾ with dried herbs (damiana leaf and rose petals). Pour 100 proof vodka over the herbs all the way to the top of the jar. Secure the jar, and place in a cool dark cupboard for at least 1 moon cycle (or 30 days), agitating it a bit every few days. The longer it sits, the more the herbs will extract.
When ready, separate the herbs from the alcohol being sure to squeeze all the tincture out of the herbs (they tend to soak it up like a sponge). Now you have your tincture. I like to store them in smaller bottles and give away to friends (with strict instructions to administer sparingly). Shelf life is up to 3 years.
