Ginger ale! Every nauseated human's good friend.
It's also a delightful refreshment but, I admit, I only reach for the ginger ale when feeling under the weather.
But then, I decided to make it myself and realized this truly is a delightful refreshment!
Let me first just say that I love ginger. I think it's beautiful. I think it's amazingly potent. I just love it.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup diced ginger
2 cups water
1/2 cup simple syrup (sugar and syrup combined)
1 lemon
1 lime
Club soda
Peel and slice 1 large piece of ginger (about 1/2 cup) and combine in saucepan with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, and simmer on low heat for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and let steep for 20 minutes. To make simple syrup, heat 1 cup water in sauce pan and dissolve 1 cup sugar in it.
Pour the ginger liquid into a pitcher through a strainer. Compost ginger pieces.
Add 1/2 cup simple syrup to pitcher. Squeeze the juice out of the lemon and lime into the pitcher as well.
Add in club soda to taste (we make our own bubbly using our Soda Stream - highly recommend it!). I ended up adding in 4 cups of soda water to get the right flavor.
Ginger Ale: Delightfully Refreshing!
Hi!!
Maybe a stupid question, but why do you make one cup of water and one cup of suger when you only use half a cup?
I have never done or tasted homemade ginger ale before (it is not as big in Sweden as in US) and I read this and have everything home, so guess what I’m gonna do now 🙂
Thanks for recipe!
Hi Frida!
Totally not a stupid question. When you boil down the sugar and water, the amount decreases so you end up with half a cup. I hope you like it!
