Hey there,

creative gal!

You’ve landed on a post I wrote a few years ago -
back when I was known as The Dabblist and was exploring all sorts of ways I could create beautiful things with my hands. It was a powerful time for me — awakening my creativity after suppressing it for so long — but this space has since evolved to reflect the woman I’m becoming.

It can be oh so tempting to look at the world through our rose-tinted “ME ME ME” glasses and make some pretty serious assumptions about one another. I find this can be particularly tempting when tired, hungry, or in rush-hour traffic (or all 3, yeesh!). There’s a beautiful quote from Plato that says:

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”

And it's just so true. So often, we can get caught up in our personal universe of "why me?!" and "they suck!" mentality. But, when it comes right down to it...you just never know.

I love this post from truth bomb maven Danielle LaPorte called Curatives for Judgement She writes:

YOU JUST NEVER KNOW IF

  • someone has just been diagnosed and is thinking about all they have to lose.
  • their lover just texted them to say, "it's over".
  • he wakes up every day thinking he's about to fail, fearing that everyone else in the world knows something that he doesn't.

YOU JUST NEVER KNOW IF

  • she's in the middle of a divorce and is about to go on stage.
  • before we was your driver, or your waiter, he was a doctor in his homeland.
  • their spirit was fractures as a child by unspeakable things.
  • she is frightened - all the time.
  • he resists life itself - all the time.
  • they are frail from lack of love.

YOU JUST NEVER KNOW IF

  • they're faking loving the heart-hallowed life they fought so hard to make.
  • chemicals are coursing through them in destabilizing ways.
  • she hasn't slept through the night in months and months.
  • they've experienced a loss that will leave a gaping wound for the rest of this incarnation.
  • today is especially hard and they're doing their best, while they wish for just a little more than what they've got.

Suspend judgement as a practice of your faith in something true, common, and bigger than today.

Avoiding conclusions can be a monumental act of love.

garbage disposal refresher cubes

Citrus and white vinegar are the staples to a toxic-free nest. So putting them together in frozen cube form seemed like the only natural step for this clean goddess to freshen up the underpinnings of her sink. The ice helps sharpen the blades of your garbage disposal and the vinegar/citrus combination will freshen up the entire kitchen. Easy, simple, elegant. All good things.

Homemade Garbage Disposal Refresher Cubes

  • White vinegar
  • Citrus peels (lemon or orange works best)
  • Ice cube mold or muffin tin

Plop your citrus peels in your ice cube tray or muffin tin and pour the vinegar over it. Freeze until solid. When ready to use, pop out of the container and run it in the garbage disposal for a 30 seconds to 1 minute.
