I’m a big fan of the bath. There’s nothing quite like dipping my weary body into a steamy tub of water at the end of a long day. Add in some essential oils, healing salts, and a candle, and I’m in heaven.
But there was a time when I didn’t have access to a bathtub. And that got me thinking...maybe some of you desire a relaxing bathing ritual at the end of the day but don’t have a bathtub in your living space. And why should you miss out on all the bliss?
Well let me teach you about the shower tablet. It’s concoction of baking soda, herbs, water, and essential oils that bakes into a little pod. The pod goes in the bottom of your shower and, when the hot water hits it, all the herbal and aromatic goodness gets released.
Aromatic Shower Tablets
- 2 cups baking soda
- 2 tbsp lavender buds, ground (like these)
- 2 tbsp chamomile, ground (like this or you can use chamomile tea)
- ½ cup water
- Lavender and chamomile essential oil (like this and this)
Pre-heat oven to 350F.
Place baking soda in a bowl, then add in ground herbs. Pour water in the bowl and mix until it gets to a paste-like consistency. Spoon into liners of a muffin tin and bake for 15-20 mins (until hard).
Remove from oven and, as it cools, drop in 5-10 drops of essential oil to each tablet.
Once cooled, store in an airtight container being sure not moisture gets to it.
